While there are many great options for bone broth to be bought in-stores or online, we love to save some money and enjoy the process of making it homemade! One of our favorite and affordable ways to make bone broth is by using a leftover rotisserie chicken carcass.
Easy Rotisserie Chicken Carcass Bone Broth Recipe:
Ingredients:
Rotisserie chicken carcass (with some scrap meat left on)
Vegetables (carrots, celery, onions)
Garlic cloves
Fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, rosemary)
Apple cider vinegar (optional)
Water
Instructions:
Prepare the Carcass:
After enjoying a rotisserie chicken, save the carcass with some meat still attached. Remove any excess skin and save the bones.
Vegetable Medley:
Chop carrots, celery, and onions (or any other veggies you have in your fridge) into large chunks. Add them to a large pot along with a few cloves of garlic.
Herbs and Spices:
Add fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, and rosemary to the pot. You really can make it your own and add whatever you like and have on hand!
Combine and Simmer:
Place the chicken carcass in the pot with the vegetables and herbs. Fill the pot with water, adding a splash of apple cider vinegar if desired. The vinegar helps get all the collagen out of the bones. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. You can also put the ingredients in a crock pot and let it go overnight on low.
Simmer and Strain:
Allow the broth to simmer for at least 4-6 hours to extract the maximum nutrients. Once done, strain the broth to remove solids, leaving behind a clear, flavorful liquid.
